Quick post before I hit the jetties and go on the Jack hunt........last week I ran out to Florida for a few days to do some land based shark fishing. It's been a few months since I had dropped a bait so I felt like it was time to get some line stretched out over the breakers. After 2 hard night and days on the beach with temps colder then I like, I was rewarded with some STUD bull sharks, one being my personal best by estimated weight (328 pounds).
I've caught many bulls, but what made these so special was that these were actually specifically targeted, down to bait placement and species. The conditions we rolled up on reminded me of conditions we get back home alot (dirty water in the first 3 guts with clear water beyond) and when those conditions prevail, bullsharks can be found quite often in those first 3 guts. Considering the wade guts are deeper in Florida then in Texas, I had a feeling that I could drop super short and still hook up on some stud bulls.............people that know me know that I greatly enjoy dropping my baits all the way to Cuba so dropping short baits is not normally on my itinerary,lol. Luckily though, by reading conditions and going against the grain, I managed to prevail in a situation where most who fish like me would have failed. The reason I know this is because we DID drop super long baits, but guess where all the fish came from??? 150 yards or less😁 Just goes to show that sometimes doing things in a way you normally wouldn't just might be the way to actually hook up. Lol, shoutout to my boy Billy Lawson for showing me around and schooling me to the ways of the bed-fisherman. There really is nothing else like working a creature bait excruciatingly slow through a bed MULTIPLE times until you can finally coerce big mamma into playing a game of tug of war with you! Well that’s a wrap!!! Teams Dizzy Dorado and Pay Czech weighed some nice fish yesterday, but not enough to knock off our champion Uno Mas or second place Reelin N Dealin! Final official results have Uno Mas with 183.3 pounds and Reelin N Dealin 168.7 pounds. Congrats, guys!!! Looking forward to doing it again this year!!!
I think the one thing I've heard most from the majority of fisherman I have met is that no one ever has enough time to fish............whether it's school, work, family, or weather, there is ALWAYS some super legitimate reason they just can't find the extra time to wet a line.........as much as I want to feel sorry for those guys and offer them words of comfort, to be completely honest, I gotta say BUMP THAT MADNESS!!! If you can find time to watch TV, follow your favorite sports teams, organize your garage, or even take a 30 minute dump, then by golly, you've got time to fish! And yes, I already know your response, "But I live too far away from my spot to make it feasibly possible in a short amount of time".........really?? THEN FIND A NEW SPOT!!Got a drainage ditch in your neighborhood? How about in the neighborhood next door?? Ever tried fishing it??? I live in one of the most congested city's in America, South Houstons finest, and guess what lives in the same ditches full of shopping carts, tires, and plastic bags? LARGEMOUTH BASS!!!!! Seriously folks, fishing is fishing, no matter how you get it, or where you get it at. The real question is, #AreYouAboutThatLife
